VMware is set to release three new products today in the vCenter line.
- vCenter Lab Manager 4.0, the next major version of VMware’s very popular lab automation software;
- vCenter AppSpeed; and
- vCenter Chargeback.
vCenter Lab Manager 4.0 sports numerous features, including vSphere compatibility, and cross-host VM fencing. This allows multiple teams of networks to share the exact same TCP/IP configuration, while also taking advantage of VMotion and Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS).
Scott Lowe’s blog commented on this being “a big one”, stating he’d had multiple customers inquire about the interaction between Lab Manager and other features like DRS.
vCenter AppSpeed is VMware’s performance management product, which is based on tech they acquired from Beehive. AppSpeed aims to give VMware administrators the ability to “see” deeper into the environment than previously.
VMware vCenter Chargeback is fully integrated with VMware vCenter Server and gives you the ability to map IT costs to business units, cost centers, or external customers – enabling a better understanding of how much resources cost and what can be done to optimize resource utilization to reduce overall spend on IT infrastructure.
