VMware bans competing vendors products from VMworld

by Patrick Redknap on May 28, 2009

VMworld has always been the one yearly industry-wide virtualization event that allows everyone in the community to get together and talk about their products in a non VMware-specific marketing conference.

This may well be changing as VMware has “modified” the terms of their sponsor and exhibitor agreement to ban sponsors/exhibitors from marketing/demonstrating any product that competes with any of theirs!

The new agreement states:
“Sponsors and exhibitors must market or demonstrate products on the exhibition floor and in the sessions which are complementary to VMware products and technologies. Complementary products and services are defined as products/services that do not overlap/substitute with VMware’s products/capabilities, and help expand the reach and solution scope of VMware’s capabilities solely as deemed by VMware.”

The big question we’re all wondering now is will anyone except VMware actually be allowed to turn up if this is the case?
